Irene L. Wapnir, MD is Professor of Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and Director of the Breast Fellowship Program. She is a key member of the Breast Oncology Program at the Stanford Cancer Institute and investigator on multiple translational and systemic treatment clinical trials. Dr Wapnir was chair of the CALOR trial based on her longstanding interest and work in the outcomes of patients experiencing locoregional recurrence of breast cancer. She was a member of the Ductal Carcinoma in situ Margin Consensus Panel and currently serves on the NCI BOLD Task Force. Additionally, Dr Wapnir has developed a body of work in the advancement of innovative surgical techniques, ranging from the use of fluorescent imaging technologies to study skin perfusion or lumpectomy margin status, testing the efficacy of tattooing of biopsy axillary lymph nodes and evaluating the abscopal effects of immune-stimulation for inoperable metastatic breast cancer.
