Dr. Maria Russell is a Professor of Surgery in the Emory Division of Surgical Oncology and the Wadley R. Glenn Chair of Surgery for Academic Programs. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her Medical Doctor Degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. She completed her General Surgery Residency at Emory, followed by her Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Russell currently serves as the Chief Quality Officer for the Winship Cancer Institute and the Program Director for the Emory Surgical Oncology Fellowship. Her research interests include investigating the presentation, treatment and outcomes in the disparate cancer population. She operates and cares for hepatopancreatobiliary and complex gastrointestinal cancer patients at Emory University Hospital Midtown and at Grady Memorial Hospital.
