Dr. Jane E. Mendez completed her undergraduate education as a biology honors major at Harvard University in 1988 in Boston, MA and then completed her medical school and general surgery training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. From 2003-2004 she pursued a Breast Surgical fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She gained extensive experience as a breast surgical oncologist at Boston University/Boston Medical Center, where she also served as Director of the Surgery Clerkship for 7.5 years and President of the Medical and Dental staff. Dr. Méndez has been the Chief of Breast Surgery at Miami Cancer Institute from March 2017 ito the present. She has been acitive in multiple surgical organizations and breast committees including the Board of the American Society of Breast Surgeons 2020-2023, Co-chair of the American Society of Breast Surgeons Health Equity Advisory Group 2021-2023, Chair of the American Society of Breast Surgeons Health Disparities Committee 2023-present, American College of Surgeons Patient Education Committee 2017-2023 and Fellow representative in the Commission on Cancer among others. Dr. Mendez has served as a reviewer for Annals of Surgical Oncology and was a former member of the Editorial board. She has a special interest in patient education, breast health disparities and underserved patient populations.
