Dr. Balch is the chief of the Emory Division of Colorectal Surgery, Professor of Surgery at Emory School of Medicine, and chief of General Surgery at Emory. He received his MD degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, completed his general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, and completed surgical oncology and colorectal surgical oncology fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Balch's clinical practice focuses on MIS, surgical robotics, and colorectal cancer. His research focuses on colorectal cancer outcomes and robotic surgery. To that end, he founded the US Rectal Cancer consortium among 6 academic institutions with 35 or more ongoing research projects.
