Dr. Maheswari Senthil is the Chief of Divison of Surgical Oncology and Director of Peritoneal Malignancy program at Univeristy of California, Irvine (UCI). She serves as the medical director for Center for Clinical Research at UCI and is the Vice Chair of research for Department of Surgery. She is the founding program director of Complex general surgical oncology fellowship at UCI. She has special interest in gastric cancer peritoneal carcinomatosis and is currently leading a Phase II clinical trial, STOPGAP that is investigating the role of sequential Systemic therapy and Intraperitoneal paclitaxel chemotherapy in gastric peritoneal carcinomatosis. Dr. Senthil's translational research work is focused on developing novel vascularized peritoneal carcinomatosis microtumors to faciliate mechanistic research and assess treatment response. She is also investigating exosome cargo to develop a liquid biopsy that could serve as diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarker tool in carcinomatosis.
