Board Certified General Surgeon with expertise in Breast Surgical Oncology/Oncoplastic Surgery. His surgical practice and clinical research focus entirely on the treatment of breast cancer.
He graduated in Medicine from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico with Hons. He also graduated in Medicine from the University of Milan, cum laude.
He completed his residency in General Surgery at the Centro Medico Nacional Siglo XXI in Mexico City and also at the Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo, Università degli Studi di Pavia, cum laude.
He completed the SSO Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York (2005-2006).
He then achieved further training at the European Institute of Oncology (EIO) in Milan by obtaining a Master in Senologia from the University of Milan and by completing a full year in oncoplastic breast reconstructive surgery at the same institution.
He holds the European Board of Surgery-Qualification in Breast Surgery (EBS-BS) and the National Scientific Qualification for Associate Professor in General Surgery by the Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca (Rome, Italy).
He is an active member of the SSO, ASCO and Panelist of the Oncoplastic Breast Consortium (OPBC, Basel, Switzerland).
He has been appointed as SSO Committee Member of the Breast Disease Site Work Group.
He has been a consultant of EUSOMA (European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists [originally European Society of Mastology]) and the scientific coordinator of Breast Centres Network.
He has been a Visiting Surgeon at the Breast Centers of Heidelberg University and Tuebingen University in Germany and at the Breast Centers of Hospital de Cancer de Barretos and Hospital Sirio Libanes in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
His clinical expertise and research interests include breast cancer management of the axilla, hereditary breast cancer, nipple-sparing mastectomy, postmastectomy reconstruction and oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery among others.
