Assistant Professor
Department of Surgery, McGill University Medical School, Montreal, QC, Canada
Dr. Ipshita Prakash has completed her general surgery residency training at McGill University, a master’s degree in healthcare policy and financing at the London School of Economics and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and has graduated from a fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in July 2020.
During her fellowship, Dr. Prakash developed an expertise in health services research by analysing patterns of breast cancer care in large, contemporary cohorts of breast cancer patients using national cancer databases and by studying the drivers of low value care in breast cancer patients. Her research evaluated differential time to surgery in breast cancer patients, and whether increases in surgical delays are correlated with survival. Additionally, she studied high value healthcare, and focused on delineating the drivers of low value care in breast cancer patients. The progression of her academic experience has led her to develop an interest in breast cancer outcomes research including a focus on financial toxicity in women with breast cancer in Canada. Her clinical interests include rare breast tumours including Phyllodes tumours of the breast, and with her recent work she hopes to improve patient experience by mitigating unnecessary surgeries for women with Phyllodes tumours.
