Rita Mukhtar, M.D. is Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at UCSF where she is Associate Program Director for the General Surgery residency, and maintains a clinical practice in breast surgical oncology and emergency general surgery. Her research interests include breast cancer risk factors, and the impact of surgical weight loss on imaging indicators of risk. Additionally, she leads a Lobular Breast Cancer Research Program at UCSF, where her work studying surgical outcomes and predictors of response to therapy in this tumor type is funded by the National Cancer Institute. She is co-chair of the Locoregional Working Group for ISPY-2 clinical trial.
