Dr. Anthony Lucci is a Professor of Surgery in the Departments of Breast Surgical Oncology, as well as the Department of Surgical Oncology, Division of Surgery, at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Lucci completed his residency in General Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by his fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Dr Lucci has been an active member of the SSO since 2000. He previously has served on the SSO Training Committee (2008-2014), and is a previous recipient of the SSO Clinical Investigator Award for his work with circulating tumor cells. He has presented at the SSO on numerous occasions, including in 2019 at the Session, “Integrating Genomics into a Surgical Oncologist’s Practice: From Promise to Reality”.
Dr. Lucci is the surgical core leader of the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Clinic and Research Program at MD Anderson (founded in 2005), where he consults with more than 100 patients with inflammatory breast cancer each year. Dr. Lucci’s clinical practice at MD Anderson focuses on patients with breast cancer and melanoma. His research focuses primarily on detection and significance of microscopic disease (circulating tumor cells, circulating tumor DNA, exosomes, methylation profiling, and protein analyses) in the blood of patients with breast cancer and melanoma. His work in this area has resulted in numerous original publications in high-impact journals, with over 233 publications, and multiple book chapters overall, as well as a national and international reputation in the field.
