University of Michigan Medical School
Michael Stover is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School graduating in May, 2024. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Boston College earning Magna cum laude academic distinction. Michael has conducted health services research (HSR) within the Dossett Lab throughout medical school with particular emphasis on healthcare value enhancement. He has led a variety of projects centered around reduction of low value-care including a project evaluating the variation across facilities in pre-operative breast MRI imaging prior to breast cancer surgery aiming to reduce unnecessary testing. He was a recipient of the NIH Biomedical Research Training Program Grant in 2023 and has published multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts within the domain of HSR. In addition to his work within the Dossett Lab, Michael served as an intern for the Michigan Program on Value Enhancement (MPrOVE), a collaborative that supports projects that foster the delivery of high value care while eliminating inappropriate or low-value care. As an intern for MPrOVE, he helped create a system to prevent unnecessary hospital admission for patients presenting to the ED with an acute pulmonary embolism. Upon graduation from medical school, he will be pursuing general surgery residency training at Rush University Medical Center with clinical interest in surgical oncology and the care of cancer patients. Outside of medicine, Michael enjoys running and has competed in several marathons.
