Amr Al Abbas is a surgical resident at UT Southwestern in his clinical 4th year and currently applying for CGSO fellowship. His research revolves around the integration of the robotic platform into pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery. Specifically, his projects include the development of artificial intelligence algorithms for automated video segmentation, structure identification and skill-assessment, the utilization of the operating room black box platform to discern predictors of intraoperative team performance in order to improve operating room efficiency and reduce errors, and health services research. His ultimate goal is to pursue a surgical oncology fellowship and a career in academic surgical oncology in the US. Amr hails from Beirut, Lebanon where he went to medical school at the American University of Beirut. He is married to Zein Saad Eddin, a surgical resident at UT Southwestern. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, cooking, working on his home and taking care of his son Adam.
