General Surgery Resident
MUSC
Charleston, South Carolina, United States
I am a PGY-4 general surgery resident at the Medical University of South Carolina with aspirations to practice as a surgical oncologist with simultaneous engagements in research and innovation. After my first two years of residency, I worked in Dr. Nancy DeMore’s laboratory with focuses on basic and translational research in surgical oncology. My main focus in the lab was in vivo studies with our humanized monoclonal antibody to SFRP2, which has shown great efficacy in both our breast and osteosarcoma models. I investigated SFRP2's role in pancreatic cancer, specifically its relationship with tumor fibrosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transformation. I also investigated the biodistribution of the humanized monoclonal antibody to SFRP2 in a breast cancer model. Outside of the basic science lab, I am involved in clinical surgical oncology research working with our institution’s breast cancer database and the National Cancer Database (NCDB) to determine best practices for breast and GI malignancies. Another avenue I currently work in is medical innovation. I am co-founder of Heartbeat Technologies, LLC, and we are working on developing novel solutions to improve cardiac arrest outcomes.
