Clinical Assistant Professor
University of Michigan
Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States
Matthew Iyer is an Assistant Professor at University of Michigan Medical School. Prior to embarking on a career in medicine, he completed his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Colorado. He then enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics under the mentorship of Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan, M.D., Ph.D. His research focused on the discovery of novel cancer-associated transcripts, including long non-coding RNAs, through pan-cancer analyses of RNA-seq datasets. After medical school, he completed general surgery residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center followed by CSGO and HPB fellowships at Duke University Medical Center. At Duke, Matthew contributed to translational research in pancreatic cancer and melanoma focusing on the analysis of spatial transcriptomics and RNA-Seq datasets. Matthew is now establishing a translational research program with the aim of discovering "practice changing" cancer biomarkers from the analysis of high-throughput molecular datasets.
