Dr. Sean Dineen is an Associate Member of the Department of GI Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center. He has a particular interest in the treatment of patients with peritoneal surface malignancies including peritoneal mesothelioma and appendiceal, colorectal and gastric cancers. Dr. Dineen earned his MD from the University of Louisville. He subsequently moved to Texas for General Surgery residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas. He completed a 2-year research fellowship focused on identification of factors in the tumor microenvironment which affect drug deliver and effectiveness. Dr. Dineen then completed a fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he earned the Clinical Excellence award from the Department of Surgery. Dr. Dineen joined the faculty at Moffitt Cancer Center in 2017 to focus on the treatment of patients with metastatic disease.
Dr. Dineen has established a peritoneal malignancy program at Moffitt Cancer Center. He has helped to assemble a team devoted to the treatment of GI cancers with peritoneal metastatic disease. Under his leadership the program has grown subtantially while providing quality care. His clinical interests include application of cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal chemotherapy. He has also performs a significant number of palliative operations for patients with metastatic disease, particularly for malignant bowel obstruction. Additionally, Dr. Dineen serves as the Program Director for the Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship and has demonstrated a life-long commitment to medical education and received several teaching awards. He has an excellent publication record and has presented nationally and internationally on GI and peritoneal cancers. He is board certified in General Surgery and Complex General Surgical Oncology.
