Christine Laronga MD FACS is a surgical oncologist, Senior Member in the Department of Breast Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center, and Professor in the Department of Surgery, University of South Florida (USF). She earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) – Newark, did her general surgery residency at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson, and completed her 3-year surgical oncology fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Her career began as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia. In 2005, she joined the faculty at Moffitt Cancer Center and USF in Florida, ascending the ranks to full Professor. She continues a busy clinical practice, treating the entire spectrum of breast disease, with a focus on hereditary breast cancer syndromes and quality of life. Her research parallels her clinical interests. She is extensively published, has written several book chapters, and speaks at numerous national & international scientific meetings.
At a state/national level, Dr. Laronga was the State Chair for the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer, served as a Commissioner, and served as a Governor to the ACS; each for 6 years. She was the President of the Florida chapter of the ACS and remains active in several committees of the chapter.
On a national/international level, Dr Laronga serves as a past President of the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS), treasurer for the AWFoundation, and was a panel member for many years on the NCCN breast high-risk guidelines. Currently, she is a panel member for the NCCN Hereditary Breast Ovarian and Pancreatic Cancer syndromes guideline. She also has served on numerous Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) committees (bylaws, membership, breast disease site workgroup [DSWG], and currently serves as the chair, Breast DSWG.
