Karyn B. Stitzenberg, MD, MPH, Professor of Surgery, has appointments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in both the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health. She is a clinical surgical oncologist specializing in lower GI and skin malignancies, and a health services researcher. Research interests focus on the impact of provider and system factors on patient outcomes. This has included work examining access to care, care coordination, financial distress, disparities in care, quality of care, workforce studies, and diffusion of innovation. She currently serves as Chair of the SSO disease site workgroup for colorectal cancer and on committees for the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer.
