Dr. Cord Sturgeon is Professor of Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chief of Endocrine Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Vice-Chair of Surgery for the Northwestern Department of Surgery. He also serves as the Director of Operations for Northwestern Memorial Hospital Surgical Services, is a Physician Director of Informatics for Northwestern Medicine, and is the Director of Quality and Safety for the Department of Surgery. He joined the faculty at Northwestern in 2004 following Endocrine Surgery Fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco with Dr. Orlo Clark. He is a prominent member of multiple national and international professional medical and surgical organizations and has been involved in the production of multiple clinical practice guidelines. Dr. Sturgeon is an active member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Thyroid Cancer Guidelines Panel, was co-chair of the ATA Guidelines Committee, and a co-author of the International Workshop Guidelines on Asymptomatic Primary Hyperparathyroidism, the AAES Guidelines on the Definitive Treatment of hyperparathyroidism, and the AAES Guidelines on Adrenalectomy. Dr. Sturgeon is an expert in neck ultrasound, fine needle aspiration biopsy, minimally invasive parathyroid surgery, thyroid cancer, and adrenal tumors. He has published numerous articles and book chapters spanning the topics of endocrine surgery and edited the textbook Endocrine Neoplasia. He is on the editorial board of 3 journals. Dr. Sturgeon is currently the immediate Past-President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (2022-2023).
