Dr. Umut Sarpel, MD, MSc, FACS, FSSO, is Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Sarpel’s clinical focus includes the care of patients with gastrointestinal, hepatopancreatobiliary, and soft tissue malignancies through the application of a broad range of open and advanced robotic techniques. In addition, she has extensive experience with Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy for the treatment of peritoneal malignancies. Dr. Sarpel is engaged in a range of research initiatives with a primary area of interest in the field of health equity. She is the past recipient of a grant from the National Cancer Institute to study disparities in access to care for minority patients with cancer. Dr. Sarpel has mentored many students, residents, and fellows, and is grateful to have received several teaching awards.
