Associate Professor of Surgery
University of Louisville
I am Mahsa Javid, an academic endocrine surgeon who earned undergraduate, medical and Masters degrees from Cambridge University; Basic Surgical Training, Higher Specialist Training, General & Emergency Surgery Fellowship training, and a Doctorate degree in Biomedical & Clinical Sciences from Oxford University investigating endocrine tumorigenesis and novel therapies for endocrine tumors, and Endocrine Surgery Fellowship from Yale University. I completed postdoctoral work as an Associate Research Scientist researching thyroid tumorigenesis at Yale University.
I have been in practice for 6 years. My current position is Associate Professor of Surgery and Endowed Chair of Endocrine Surgery at the University of Louisville, Kentucky.
I am a principal investigator on studies investigating the role of high exidative stress in the development of thyroid cancer. My work in molecular genetics has resulted in high quality clinical and basic science publications, national and international presentations conferences and several awards.
I am also a clinical and academic educator and have many trainees including undergraduate students, medical students, residents and fellows in academic activities, as well as trained residents in surgery and endocrinology. I have initiated several courses including for Endocrinology Fellows, surgery residents, and medical students. At each stage of my education and training I was instructed, inspired, challenged and guided by preeminent clinicians and scientists who consistently held those under their tutelage to the highest of standards and expectations. Their models established for me the examples and standards by which I now attempt to teach, mentor and counsel.
