Dr. Kesmodel is a surgical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant breast diseases and high-risk cutaneous malignancies. She is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Miami and serves as the Director of Breast Surgical Oncology and Co-Leader of the Breast Disease Site Group for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC). Dr. Kesmodel is also the chair of the COC Committee for SCCC and is the medical director for the SCCC operating room. Dr. Kesmodel received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and completed a residency in general surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in surgical oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Kesmodel’s research interests include optimizing local regional therapy for patients with breast cancer and utilization of neoadjuvant therapy to improve surgical outcomes. Currently she is the PI on a trial evaluating management of the axilla in breast cancer patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and Co-Investigator on a trial of preoperative accelerated partial breast irradiation. Dr. Kesmodel is is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Breast Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, and NRG Oncology. She currently serves on the Publications Committee for the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Melanoma Disease Site Work Group for the Society of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Kesmodel is also a member of the Breast Local Regional and Rare Tumor Committees for NRG Oncology.
