Dr. Carlos Eduardo Diaz-Castrillón is an IMG general surgeon and researcher with a robust background in both surgery and clinical research. Born in Colombia, Dr. Diaz-Castrillón earned his medical degree from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, where he also completed his General Surgery Residency. Following his residency, Dr. Diaz-Castrillón served as an Attending General Surgeon in Colombia before relocating to the United States to further his research pursuits. He has been recognized for his academic excellence with honors such as exemption from final exams in medical school and accolades for his research contributions, which include a first-place award at a national surgical symposium in Colombia and recognition for an outstanding abstract at a European clinical nutrition congress.
Currently, Dr. Diaz-Castrillón is deepening his expertise in clinical research through a Master’s degree at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also holds a position as a postdoctoral research fellow. As a Research Scholar at the University, his work continues to contribute valuable insights into the clinical outcomes of surgical treatments in cardiothoracic surgery, underpinning his commitment to improving patient care through evidence-based practices. His contributions extend beyond the operating room to the field of clinical research, positioning him as a clinician-scientist improving the landscape of surgical care and clinical outcomes.
