Dr. Olivia Monton is a General Surgery resident at McMaster University in Canada. She is currently an ScM Candidate in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University with research interests that focus on the use of mixed method within surgical oncology and palliative care. She is focused on projects that address the underutilization and low uptake of palliative care services, specifically for patients with advanced cancers. She is also the Program Manager of a national clinical trial that aims to address disparities in palliative care through the use of a community health worker intervention for African American patients with advanced cancer. Dr. Monton's research and leadership initiatives have garnered her many competitive scholarships and national grants. She has also been awarded several leadership awards for her contributions to philanthropy in Canada, including the Senate of Canada 150 Medal and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.
