Fellow
Department of Breast Surgical Oncology, MD Anderson Cancer Center Houston TX, U.S.A.
I am a current breast surgical oncology fellow at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. I completed my general surgery residency and medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. My prior research has focused on improving our understanding of the biological heterogeneity of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) through translational multi-institution collaboration with implications for clinical de-escalation strategies. I am also interested in harnessing the tumor immune microenvironment in our treatment of both invasive breast cancer and DCIS. Finally, my fellowship training has exposed me to a dedicated inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) treatment center; while de-escalation of therapy is appropriate for some types of breast cancer, I have learned that data does not support this strategy in IBC and that the biology of this disease is fundamentally different.
