Surgical Oncology Fellow
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
I earned my medical degree from Aristotle University, Greece, where I graduated with the highest honors in 2009. My passion for research led me to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at UC Davis with a focus on tissue engineering and regeneration. Following that, I started my General Surgery residency training at Stanford University. During my clinical training at Stanford University, I was fortunate to work with inspiring mentors in the Division of Surgical Oncology, which ignited my strong interest in a career in Surgical Oncology. During my clinical training, I further honed my research skills by pursuing the Surgical Oncology Research Fellowship at Stanford University concentrating on clinical outcomes and translational research.
Following that, I completed my General Surgery residency training at UC San Diego. Seeking specialized training, I pursued the Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, set to be completed in July 2024. During my time at UPMC, I have received comprehensive training in all aspects of Surgical Oncology, with a specific focus on the treatment of gastrointestinal cancer. This included exposure to a high volume of diverse gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatobiliary pathologies, as well as training in minimally invasive surgical techniques (robotic and laparoscopic) and regional therapy (HIPEC and hepatic artery infusion pump therapy). I also had the opportunity to be involved and produce impactful clinical and translational research under the excellent mentorship of Drs. Amer Zureikat and Haroon Choudry, present my work at national and international conferences, and publish my studies in peer-reviewed journals.
My clinical focus centers on delivering comprehensive surgical oncology care, particularly in the realm of hepatopancreatobiliary and gastrointestinal malignancies, with an emphasis on employing minimally invasive techniques.
