Andrea N. Riner, MD MPH is a PGY6 General Surgery Resident at University of Florida. She is a graduate of University of Maryland School of Medicine and obtained her MPH in International Health and Epidemiology at Boston University. She completed two year of dedicated research under a T32 in precision medicine, with a focus on pancreatic cancer omics across diverse populations. Her research interests include cancer health disparities and cancer cachexia, particularly in relation to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Dr. Riner is also passionate about increasing diversity of participants in clinical trials and translational research, as well as cancer care in sub-Saharan Africa. She is an active member of numerous surgical societies aside from SSO, including Association of Women Surgeons, where she is a member of the Publications Committee, and Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. Dr. Riner is also an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the surgical workforce, serving on numerous committees, publishing on DEI matters, and advocating for causes such as surgeon fertility. She aspires to be an academic surgical oncologist and is currently applying to CGSO fellowship programs.
