T32 Resident Research Fellow
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Dr. Fields is a general surgery resident whose interests are in public health and oncology, with a special emphasis on healthcare disparities. After obtaining a BS in Spanish and Latin American/Caribbean Studies, she went on to complete a Master of Public Health degree prior to obtaining her Doctor of Medicine. She is currently completing a T32 Research Fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Department of Surgical Oncology. Her focus is on the intersections of public health with disease pathogenesis and perioperative outcomes. Noting the huge economic burden and quality-of-life impact of GI malignancies and their disproportionate effect on racial/ethnic minorities, she is invested in researching novel techniques for reducing incidence and recurrence, while also respecting the historical relationship between minority groups and research.
