Dr. Monica Valero received her medical degree from University Central Venezuela Medical School in Caracas, Venezuela. In 2010, she applied for and was awarded an International Breast Surgical Research Scholarship supporting two years as a clinical research fellow at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. From 2012-2018, Dr. Valero joined the general surgery residency program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. During her residency, she completed a one-year surgical critical care fellowship. From 2018-2019, she subsequently completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She recently joined the faculty at the Yale School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in surgery and Director of the Hispanic Breast Cancer Program.
She aims to provide high quality breast cancer surgical care to patients, improve access to care and promote innovation within the field of breast surgery. Additionally, she will work closely with fellows, residents, and medical students, providing teaching and mentoring in the outpatient, inpatient, and operating room settings. Her background and clinical training give her a unique perspective, to build a practice focused on cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in patients with breast cancer.
