Surgical Oncologist Hospital General de México México, Mexico
Justification: The study of patient-related risk factors, such as smoking, alcoholism, and Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma are of great importance for the surgical team, since they affect the patient`s surgical risk, and the complications that may arise during and after surgery. However, the impact they have on adequate lymph node dissection and adequate lymph node harvest (emptying) has not been established.
Objectives: To determine the effect of patient-related risk factors on adequate lymph node collection in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma from a retrospective cohort of patients who underwent gastrectomy at the Mixed Tumor Service of the Oncology Department of the General Hospital "Dr. Eduardo Liceaga" of Mexico, between 2017 and 2022.
Material and
Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional analytical study of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma in a retrospective group of patients who underwent gastrectomy at the General Hospital of Mexico “Dr. Eduardo Liceaga” Oncology unit service of mixed tumors between 2017 and 2022, considering registry of clinical data , endoscopic and surgical findings and pathology reports to determine the effect that patient-related risk factors have regarding the amount of lymph nodes obtained (nodal harvest) the moment of performing lymphadenectomy; in addition to corroborating the statistical association of tumor risk factors to obtain metastatic nodes.
Results: The number of nodes obtained after a gastrectomy related to risk factors, when performing linear regression, it is observed that a greater number of nodes can be obtained in a person with normal weight (6 more nodes when compared to a low-weight person), but with a p of 0.07 (+/- significant), but in the presence of the H Pylori bacteria there is a statistically significant association. Where its presence is associated with obtaining a greater number of nodes at the time of dissection, with a P 0.00, coefficient of 9.3
Conclusions: H pylori infection impacts the oncological outcome, by showing a better lymph node harvest, as a good prognostic factor regarding the result or number of lymph nodes obtained; Such a result is accompanied by smoking and alcoholism.
